Gordon Hawkins
International Opera Star
Surrattsville Class of 1976
Gordon
Hawkins is one of the world’s top baritone opera singers.
Gordon, who currently is on a tour of the major opera houses
in Europe, has appeared in major roles at the Metropolitan
Opera, the Royal Opera Covent Garden, and other top opera
venues around the world. You can read an interesting
article about Gordon, which mentions his Clinton roots, in
US OperaWeb magazine at
www.usoperaweb.com/2002/jan/hawkins.htm.
Some of you
may recall that Gordon, who was always a very talented
musician, turned his focus strictly to opera after an injury
ended his baseball playing days that were leading him from
Surratts through the University of Maryland to a
professional baseball career. Talk about well-rounded!
The
Foundation is proud to recognize Gordon's extraordinary
achievements in music with its 2002 Achievement Award!
