2012 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Markita Hill (12)
Markita, who received the Foundation's Jennie Denison Bayne Memorial Scholarship that is awarded to graduates planning to study in the health field, plans to attend Spelman College in the Fall to study biology and ultimately become a dentist and forensic odontologist. Markita's Surrattsville achievements include National Honor Society, JROTC Cadet of the Year, Principal's Honor Roll, multiple JROTC ribbons and awards, Marching Band, Peer Mediator, Special Olympics, and Maryland Girls' State. Outside of school, she was active in Dove's Ministry.
Robert Martin (12)
Robert, who also received a Foundation
General Fund scholarship, plans to attend McDaniel College in the
Fall to study computer information.
Robert was on the Honor Roll throughout grades 9-12, the
football team, the track team, the Chess Club, and was awarded the
All State C Minds in Motion Award.
Robert also maintained the highest GPA for all the young men
in the Class of 2012.
Outside of school, Robert served as a volunteer at Washington
Redskins charity events. Patience Amankwa (12)
Patience, who received a Foundation General Fund scholarship, plans to attend UMES in the Fall to study social work. Patience's achievements at Surrattsville include Student of the Month, Honor Roll and Principal's Honor Roll, Science Fair Award, Citizenship Award, President of College Summit Peer Leaders, Co-Capt. Of Step Team, SHS Choir and Alto Section Leader, President of Spoken Word, Student Aid, Most Outstanding and Improved Cadet, volunteer tutor in English, Science and Math, National High School Scholars member, and President of Middle States Student Planning Team. Patience is also Captain of her Church Dance Team, and is fluent in English, Wi, Gha and Pigeon.
