Scholarships
2017 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

TRINITY HARVEY, who
plans to attend Delaware State University in the Fall, was awarded the Esther
Clifton Miller Memorial Scholarship.
While at Surratts, Trinity served as SGA 2nd
Vice President, varsity boys’ basketball manager, Vice President of the Future
Educators of America, and played on the varsity girls’ soccer team. She was active in Girl Scouts and Delta GEMS,
as well as at her church. Trinity was
very active in numerous other community service activities, ranging from
serving as an elementary school science fair judge to packing holiday food
baskets for the needy. ALEXIS GLENN, who plans
to attend Hampton University in the Fall, was awarded a General Fund
Scholarship. While at Surratts, Alexis maintained a GPA of 3.9, not receiving a
grade less than A beginning in her sophomore year. Alexis served as Senior Class President,
National Honor Society President, Yearbook Editor, cheerleading captain, track
team captain, Peer Leader, and Counseling Department Ambassador. She was awarded the cheerleading squad’s MVP
Award, and was on the Principal’s Honor Roll. DREW ANDERSON, who
plans to attend Bridgewater College in the Fall, was awarded a General Fund
Scholarship. While at Surratts, Drew maintained Honor Roll standing while taking
courses like AP Literature and Pre-Calculus.
Drew was the captain of the varsity football team and a member of the
varsity track and baseball teams. He led
the football team’s community service projects of little league field clean-up
and Thanksgiving turkey distribution to those in need. Drew served in a number of other volunteer
roles during his years at Surrattsville. DUSTIN SMITH, who plans
to attend the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the Fall, was awarded the
Thomas V. Miller, Sr. (36) Memorial Scholarship. While at Surratts,
Dustin served as President of the SHS Student Leaders, Vice President and 1st
Vice President of the SGA, and as a Peer Mediator, was a member of the National
Honor Society and a delegate to the American Legion Boys State program, and was
on the varsity golf, indoor track, tennis, and soccer teams. Dustin accomplished all of the above while
earning over 550 hours for his service to the community and while working in a
grocery store. TYTRICE FAISON, who
plans to attend the University of Maryland in the Fall, was awarded the Charles
Waddell Memorial Scholarship. While at Surratts, Tytrice maintained a
3.8 GPA and attended classes at Prince George’s Community College. She was active in the Orchestra (for which
she was first chair cello), the Marching Band, the Concert Band (where she was
first chair French horn), the Jazz Band, served as Student Director for the
Band Department and served as Prop Manager for the Drama Department. Tytrice was the
founder of Surrattsville’s Anime Club, worked as a
Junior Counselor at a Girl Scout Camp, was active in the Writing Club. She was active in numerous other clubs and
activities and was awarded a number of awards of distinction. BRITTANY HUME-DAWSON,
who plans to attend Alabama State University in the Fall on a full scholarship,
was awarded a General Fund Scholarship.
Brittany was the Valedictorian of the Class of 2017. While at Surratts,
she served as Secretary and President of the SGA, was Secretary and Vice
President of the National Honor Society, was MVP of the varsity tennis team,
was PA Officer and Executive Officer of the AFJROTC, and was active in a number
of other clubs and activities. Brittany
was awarded the PGCPS Jessie Warr Award, the Cadet of
the Quarter Award, and the American Legion Award. |
